Game day

As a change of pace in my classroom, I keep an hour open on the last Friday of the month for "game day." My students are invited to bring in any board games they have from home. We then set them up all around the classroom. Putting them inside of "hula hoops" on the floor will keep all of your pieces together. Small groups rotate from game to game. Time does not allow for all students to complete all the games, but they usually get the opportunity to do at least 3. This activity is a lot of fun and is different from the norm as they read, follow directions, and practice taking turns. Instead of board games from home, try also using math or other learning center games out to play.
